Playoff Possibilities Setup Fascinating Week 14:

(December 6, 2005) The Sherman Oaks River Rats have locked up the second playoff spot in the Jedi Conference.  The River Rats can also win the 2005 Jedi Conference regular season title by winning in Week 14 and having the Chapel Hillbillies lose or tie... only 3 points separates the two team’s season points for totals.

In the Empire Conference, the Raleigh Roughhousers can claim both a playoff spot and the 2005 Empire Conference regular season title by defeating the Serbian Serial Killers in Week 14.  The Raleigh Roughhousers have won 8 games in a row, no jinx intended.  If the Serbians win they will also claim a playoff spot and the 2005 Empire Conference regular season title.

The Boomer Sooners will clinch a playoff birth by defeating the Frognation Imposters in Week 14, unless the Raleigh Roughhousers lose to the Serbians and still outscore the Sooners by 32 points.  If both the Sooners and Roughhousers win in Week 14 we will have the first ever father/son playoff game in league history... hopefully more will come in the decades ahead.

The Death Row Models and Piscataway Playaz have clinched the bottom spot in their respective conferences and will own the first draft positions in each round of the 2006 PFL Conference Drafts.

Empire Conference Rivals Set For Major Clash:
(November 11, 2005) Longtime PFL rivals Raleigh Roughhousers and JoJo's Untouchables are set to clash in Week 10, in what will be the first meaningful game for both sides this late in a PFL season in quite a few years. Normally Raleigh is busy vying for the #1 overall pick by Week 10 each year, but with Raleigh (5-4) and the Untouchables (5-3-1) both in the thick of the Empire Conference playoff race, Portman Stadium is sure to be "SRO" this Sunday afternoon.

When asked how he feels about his team's chances this Sunday, Raleigh GM
Mick Lendach said, "Well, the rivalry has been a bit one-sided recently, with JoJo winning the last 74 meetings. But our club has been working hard all year and we are playing our best football right now. We like our chances to break through this weekend."

Lendach went on to comment that the Untouchables are competitive every year due primarily to the stellar team management of
Mr. Gonzalez and Mr. Portman. When informed that "Mr. Portman" is not the team's co-GM and is in reality a male cat, Lendach responded: "Uh, yeah. And I'm a f----- golden retriever. Where do you people get this crap?"

Franchise Fates Changing in 2005?:
(October 13, 2005) Coming into the 2005 PFL Season the Chapel Hillbillies, under the guidance of owner and GM Fred Maske, had only won 24 of their first 71 games in franchise history.  Five games into the 2005, however, the Hillbillies are yet to be defeated.  The big question around the league, right now, is are the Hillbillies for real or are they a paper tiger?

A quick look at league statistics shows that the Hillbillies only have 1 player (Steve Smith) in the Top 15 of Touchdown Scorers amongst all running-backs and wide-receivers, and only 2 players, with the addition of Willis McGahee, in the Top 30 of Touchdown Scorers amongst all running-backs and wide-receivers in the league.

With nine games still to be played in the 2005 PFL Regular Season anything can happen... what two teams from each conference do you think will qualify for the 2005 PFL Playoffs?  Voice your opinion in the PFL BLOG.

Parity Achieved in 2005?:
(September 20, 2005) After 10 seasons, it seems that the highest ever level of team parity has taken hold in the PFL.  After the first two games of the 2005 season, only three teams (JoJo's Untouchables, San Juan Chupacabras, and Chapel Hillbillies) are undefeated and two of those (the Chupacabras and Hillbillies) tied their heads-up meeting.  Never before in league history has there been less than two 2-0 teams heading into the third week of the season.

Another league first... the Serbian Serial Killers are 0-2, but have lost their first two games by a grand total of two points... losing 19-18 to Frognation in Week #1 and 38-37 to the Sooners in Week #2.  In both games the Serbians got less points from their place kicker... the difference between 0-2 and 2-0.

Three of the five draft picks traded by the Playaz were previously obtained from Valhalla in other trades.

Imposters Smash Godfathers... Kotsianas Loses Another Big Game:
(December 27, 2004) As Frognation Imposters owner Bret Devich hoisted the Hoskins Trophy high up in the sky Greek Godfathers owner Gus Kotsianas was laying low in the dumps wondering for the second time 'what could have been?'  "It was there for the taking," Kotsianas told reporters... "It was there like candy in my girlfriends hand."  When asked about his teams insufficient 15 point output Kotsianas stated that "there will be major changes this offseason.  I'm gonna sit down with the coach, the GM and our draft scout and together we'll make sure the Godfathers are ready to win in '05.  People are losing their cushy jobs this time!"  When reminded by one of his cheerleaders that he is the Godfathers coach, GM and draft scout, Kotsianas smiled and, after an extended pause, said, "Oh, yeh.  Right.  You almost had me there for a second."
Entire World Rooting Against The Godfathers:
(December 24, 2004) As Fantasy Bowl X gets underway, a united voice, a singular voice of hope travels around with world along with Santa Claus' sleigh... "Rudolph with your nose so bright won't you help Frognation blow out the Godfathers tonight?"
Conference Championships... Let's Have A Look At The Big Board:
(December 17, 2004) Just 24 hours from the 2004 Conference Championship kickoffs, the Greek Godfathers (11-3) and Frognation Imposters (9-5) are yet to announce their starting lineups.  Whether to interpret it as gamesmanship or indecision depends on who you're talking to, but the odds makers in Las Vegas have made their thoughts known.

Week 14: Playoff Participants All But Set... Sooners Need Miracle:
(December 8, 2004) The 2004 Jedi Conference Playoff qualifiers are locked in place with the Greek Godfathers (10-3) winning the regular season crown and the Valhalla Victimizers (7-5-1) clinching second place after defeating the Jacksonville Juice in Week 13.  The 2004 Jedi Conference Championship Game will mark the first ever playoff meeting between the two franchises.

The situation remains a bit more complicated in the Empire Conference.

EMPIRE CONFERENCE:
Frognation Imposters (9-4)... Barring unprecedented scoring by other teams in Week 14, Bret Devich's squad has clinched a playoff due to their superior lead in points for with 491 to the Untouchables 441 and Sooners 396. Winning their final game against the Boomer Sooners will both officially eliminate the Sooners from the playoff race and bring the 2004 Empire Conference regular season title to Frognation.  The Imposters will also win the regular season title if the Untouchables lose their final game or if both teams tie.
JoJo's Untouchables (9-4)
... Jorge Gonzalez squad is currently entrenched in a playoff spot, but need to win their final game and have the Imposters lose in order to win the Empire Conference regular season title.  The only way the Untouchables can miss the playoffs is if they lose and get outscored by the Boomer Sooners, who must win, in Week 14 by at least 45 points.  If all of that happens and the Untouchables end tied in points for with the Sooners, they will miss the playoffs due to their 0-2 regular season record against the Sooners.
Boomer Sooners(8-5)... Peter Lendach's squad needs a small miracle in order to end the regular season with a playoff birth in hand.  They must have the Untouchables lose, win their own final game and also outscore the Untouchables by at least 45 points in Week 14.  A tie in record and points for with the Untouchables will send the Sooners to the playoffs in miracle fashion.

Playoff Possibilities... Intrigue With Two To Play:
(November 30, 2004) The 2004 PFL playoff picture is coming into focus with just two regular season games left to play.  Here are the teams that have qualified or can still qualify for this years playoffs:

JEDI CONFERENCE:
Greek Godfathers (9-3)... Gus Kotsianas' squad has clinched the 2004 Jedi Conference Regular Season Title and a spot in the playoffs as the Jedi Conferences top seed.
Valhalla Victimizers (6-5-1)... Matt Lendach's squad will clinch a playoff spot with a win in Week 13 over the Jacksonville Juice or a win in Week 14 combined with a Jacksonville Juice loss or tie in Week 14.
Jacksonville Juice (6-6)... Mike "Juice" Malandrucco's squad can clinch a playoff spot by winning in Week 13 and Week 14 or by winning in Week 13 and having the Valhalla Victimizers lose in Week 14.
Chapel Hillbillies (5-7)... Fred "Geek Squad" Maske's squad needs to win both of their remaining two games and have the Valhalla Victimizers lose both of their games, plus have the Jacksonville Juice lose to the Greek Godfathers in Week 14.

EMPIRE CONFERENCE:
JoJo's Untouchables (9-3)... Jorge Gonzalez squad have all but clinched a playoff spot and will clinch the 2004 Empire Conference Title if they win in Week 13 and Week 14.  They will clinch a playoff spot by winning in either Week 13 or Week 14 or even if they lose both games and finish ahead of the Boomer Sooners on points should the Boomer Sooners win both of their remaining games.  They will also qualify for the playoffs (and likely win the 2004 Empire Conference Regular Season Title) if the Frognation Imposters lose both of their remaining games.
Frognation Imposters (8-4)... Bret Devich's squad will clinch a playoff spot if they win in either Week 13 or Week 14.  They will win the 2004 Empire Conference Regular Season Title if they win their remaining two games and JoJo's Untouchables loses one of their two remaining games or if they win one of their two remaining games and JoJo's Untouchables lose both of their remaining games.
Boomer Sooners(7-5)... Peter Lendach's squad will need to win their remaining two games and have the Frognation Imposters lose in Week 13... the Boomer Sooners and Frognation Imposters play in Week 14.  A Week 13 Imposters loss coupled with a Week 13 Boomer Sooners win would setup a winner-takes-all playoff qualification game in their season finale.  The Boomer Sooners cannot qualify over the Frognation Imposters if both teams finish with identical records due to the Frognation Imposters 105 point lead in points scored.
Serbian Serial Killers (6-6)... Steve Cirkovic's squads repeat dreams hang by a thread.  The Serbians must win both of their two remaining games and have the Frognation Imposters lose both of their remaining games and have the Boomer Sooners lose in Week 13.  If all of that happens, they must still finish ahead of the Frognation Imposters in points scored... they currently trail the Frognation Imposters by 3 points with 453 to the Frognation Imposters league leading 456.  If the Boomer Sooners win in Week 13, the Serbian Serial Killers will be eliminated from the playoff race due to the Boomer Sooners and Frognation Imposters meeting in Week 14 where both teams would have records of at least (8-5), guaranteeing that one of them will finish better than 8-6.

The Pre-Contract Week Trading Has Begun:
(October 23, 2004) The annual pre-contract week trading bonanza has begun with the Valhalla Victimizers and Piscataway Playaz inking a blockbuster trade designed to fill holes in each teams offense.  After considering offers for Randy Moss from three separate Jedi Conference teams, the Playaz finally sent him, and their Sixth Round Draft Choice in the 2005 Jedi Conference Draft, to the Valhalla Victimizers in return for Chris Brown and their Second Round Draft Choice in 2005.

"We have Marvin Harrison at wide-receiver and now Chris Brown will give us the young stud at running-back we've been needing," said Playaz owner Ron "Snoop" Sarnecky.  Victimizer owner Matt Lendach said, "I didn't want to trade Chris Brown, but we have Priest Holmes at running-back and some other guys that have been running well, so I felt I needed to pull the trigger and bring in the star wide-receiver we haven't had since trading Terrell Owens."  Initial analysis in the press rates the trade a push, with both team getting help at their weak positions.

In another big trade, the Chapel Hillbillies traded Roy Williams (WR--Detroit), Larry Fitzgerald (WR--Arizona) and Lee Suggs (RB--Cleveland) to the Jacksonville Juice for Charles Rogers (WR--Detroit), Anquan Boldin (WR--Arizona) and Hines Ward (WR--Pittsburgh).  This sizeable deal sees new contracts and reshaped rosters coming to North Carolina and Florida in time for the playoff run.

Certainly more trade talks will follow in the days remaining before teams must declared their player contracts, including a two-year, two one-year contracts and a possible rookie contract.

2004... One Third Done:  Big Questions Remain:
(October 12, 2004) With the 2004 regular season more than a third of the way thru, some big questions need to be answered:

1) Will the Greek Godfathers hold on in the Jedi Conference for a playoff spot?
2) Will the Chapel Hillbillies keep scoring points and claim a Jedi Playoff spot?
3) Will the Boomer Sooners keep winning and make the playoffs in their first season?
4) Will the Serial Killers regain their composure and live up to their preseason hype?
5) Who will make the trade move that puts their team over the top?
6) Which players will owners put under contract after Week #6?

Only time will give the answers to these questions...

Week 1 Losses Put Pressure on Teams With Playoff Expectations:
(September 15, 2004) The Raleigh Roughhousers may start forfeiting their traditional opening game against JoJo's Untouchables, because they're 0-5-1 in their last six openers against Jorge Gonzalez' squad and this year the price was even higher than just another notch in the loss column.  The Roughhousers lost #1 wide-receiver Steve Smith late in the game and in an act of questionable heart, cut him before anyone's well-wishing flowers could even reach the hospital.

Elsewhere in the PFL, the Serbian Serial Killers tied a PFL record by winning their 10th consecutive game going back to their last loss in Week 7 of the 2003 season.  Their loss to the Serbians puts added pressure on the Frognation Imposters in Week #2 as they travel to face the Untouchables, who may be their main opponent for a playoff spot.  All analysts project the Serial Killers as the Conference Champs, thus making the Empire conference a five team race for one playoff spot.

They're still 13 weeks to go, but it doesn't take long to get on the hot seat in the PFL.

Draft Day 2004 Getting Close:
(September 7, 2004) The 2004 Conference Drafts are over with the Jedi Conference Draft and Empire Conference Draft both officially in the books.  Who has the strongest roster in the Jedi and Empire?
